"There is no way to leave out Portland if you want to portray Oregon properly. It’s the biggest city in the state, the core of a populated region and a very important transport hub. There is a big harbor there and lots of industry. All that should be reflected in American Truck Simulator, not just in appearance, but also in the game's economy."
— SCS Software's blog[1]

Portland is a city featured in the Oregon map expansion DLC for American Truck Simulator. It is the largest and most populous city in Oregon. It was featured in one of SCS's blog posts.[1] It isn't very far from Tacoma in the game in real time.

Geography[]

The Columbia and Willamette Rivers run through Portland. The city is located both on flatlands and hillsides.

Landmarks[]

Many of Portland's highrise buildings can be seen in game such as the towering Wells Fargo Center, the KOIN Tower, PacWest Center, Standard Insurance Center, Edith Green – Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, Cosmopolitan on the Park condominium tower (as a stand-in), The John Ross Tower, The Mirabella Portland apartment tower, The Ardea apartments, Congress Center, Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse, the Moda Tower (as a stand-in), the Meriwether West, 1000 Broadway (as a stand in), NV apartments, One Main Place, The Meriwether East, Umpqua Bank Plaza, 200 Market (the "Black Box"), and the Harrison Tower Apartments West Tower.

As for medium height buildings the other two Harrison Towers, the three towers of the American Plaza, the Overton Street Apartment by Stay Alfred, The Wyatt Apartments apartment complex, One Pacific Square, First & Main, Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront, The Encore, Riva on the Park Apartments, Atwater Place Condominiums, OHSU Center for Health & Healing, the Collaborative Life Sciences Buiding, and the City of Portland Police Bureau, The Strand condos, the two Waterfront Pearl condominium towers, Residence Inn by Marriott, 2100 SW River Parkway, and MachineWorks building are recreated in the game.

Portland's many bridges earn Portland the nickname "Bridge town" so SCS had to include several in their re-creation of the city. The Fremont Bridge (drive-able), the Steel Bridge, the Burnside Bridge, the Hawthorne Bridge, the Marquam Bridge (drive-able), and the Tilikum Crossing can be seen in-game.

Other landmarks recreated in-game are the Moda Center (renamed "Domus Arena"), Oregon Convention Center, Oregon Health & Science University, Shipyard Commerce Center, and Portland International Airport.

Portland is the headquarters for Daimler Trucks North America, which makes Freightliner and Western Star, as well as Detroit engines.

Features[]

Portland can be split between four parts, each not connected to the others: Northwest Industrial District, north, Portland Airport, and Troutdale (technically a separate town).

In the Northwest Industrial District, there are a Chemso depot, an Avalanche Steel scrapyard, a gas station, and a garage.

In the northern part of the city, there are the Haddock Shipyard, the Western Star truck manufacturing plant, a Kenworth truck dealer, a service shop, and a truck stop with a Gallon Oil unloading point.

At the Portland International Airport, there are the Portland Cargo Central and a Tidbit market.

In the city of Troutdale, there are two Wallberts and a gas station with rest stop.

In addition, a viewpoint is located at the shipyard north of the city.

Trivia[]

  • Portland Police Bureau cars were initially designed wrong by SCS Software. Upon release, the police cars are designed as Portland, Maine police cars and not Portland, Oregon police cars. This was later fixed in a patch.
  • A reference to SCS Software is seen on the Tri-Met light rail trains (named SCS Met).
  • Twin-cities of Portland, which are also in SCS Software games:
